About

Caroline Bernard portraitCaroline Bernard is a young multidisciplinary artist who, from a young age, explores the world of visual arts. Indeed, she experiments with pleasure and creativity the 2D arts, 3D as well as the 7th art.

Here, on this portal, you will discover her artistic universe, which means: her artistic approach, her training, her exhibitions, her prizes and mentions, her artistic projects, her biography and of course her portfolio.

Artist’s Statement

I consider myself as a multidisciplinary artist in visual arts since I am utilizing and touching on several mediums, styles and themes. My agents of creative expression range from painting (oil, acrylic, watercolor, mixed media), to monotype through video (documentaries, animations). Styles can range from figurative to abstract. I develop themes like cities, streets, characters, bodies, squares and I can even include an element in another element. Therefore I do not limit my creation and my inspiration by imposing upon myself only one medium, theme or specific style because the restrictions limit the creation and the artistic progression. That's why I never know where my creation can lead me.

When I have an inspiration, I must create it regardless of whether it is a departure from my “normal artistic trademark” or style. Generally, my inspiration for a creation can begin simply by the will to use a certain color, medium, style, material, texture, form, line or even by a certain element. As an example I can have the idea of having an umbrella in my work, and from there I develop my idea and usually the subject of my creation comes last. Currently, I am exploring color combinations, vivid, vibrant and harmonious colors, which are key to the success of an artwork. The subject of the work is secondary. Indeed, it is the living colors that catch the eye and make people appreciate the work, no matter the subject.

My artistic works emanate and reflect a lot of emotion. Sometimes, they can even be shocking and provocative. They have punch and audacity. They certainly do not go unnoticed.

Artist’s Biography

For a decade, Caroline Bernard's works are exhibited in the province of Quebec, specifically in Montreal and the Vaudreuil-Soulanges area. In fact, her works can be seen in many collective exhibitions such as with the Pincourt association called “Le Mouvement d’Expression Artistique Libre”, and also with “Valedar” an association located in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield. Her artworks are also exhibited in libraries such as the Notre-Dame-de-l'Ile-Perrot library.

The artist has won three awards and an honorable mention in many Art Contests. She also had the chance to produce a documentary in a program called “Doc Shop 5” created by the National Film Board in collaboration with the CBC. Her documentary entitled "Ninon" was one of the few documentaries to be broadcast on CBC News.

Research and creation play an important role in her works. She explores many artistic techniques and is more and more interested in different colors and the interactions between them. She is interested in bright, harmonious and complementary colors.

The artist lives in Ile-Perrot. She is currently completing her Bachelor's degree in Computation Arts at Concordia University. She already has a College Diploma in Visual Arts at CEGEP John Abbott College and also another College Diploma in Arts, Literature & Communication (profile media art) at CEGEP John Abbott College.
